How it works

It is important to know how your membership works and what it is spent on

Simply put this is how your budget is made up...

Membership + Block Grant + Sponsorship/ticket sales = Your team's budget

Membership

Both your membership and block grant fund your university sporting experience here at Greenwich and Medway.

Block Grant

Greenwich Students’ Union is given £60k by the university to spread between all our clubs to help subsidise Union run sport. The block grant can be bid for over the summer and a panel of GSU staff will allocate based on a need’s hierarchy.

Membership

Membership is the price per member to play sport for Team Greenwich. This cost is calculated by your team’s committee based on last years spending. This can vary from club to club due to different levels of activity.

Block Grant

Every year, GSU Sports department are given funding by the university to be split between all sports teams across Greenwich and Medway, also referred to as a block grant. This money is bid for by committees to help subside sporting costs for the year. To ensure memberships can be kept as cheap as possible and clubs do not run on a deficit, the block grant will be there to help support teams with the high cost of running a sports team.

Sponsorship and Tickets

Some clubs may have the chance to gain sponsorship from places like bars and clubs, and local businesses to help with the cost of running their club. Some clubs also host events to raise money for the club.

Kit

Both Team Greenwich and Team Medway are pleased to announce we are entering an extension to our exclusive partnership with Surridge for the next three years.

An exclusive contract means that all teams should be wearing Surridge kit and leisurewear. Buying any other kit or leisurewear will be a breach of this contract.

This year for the 25/26 GSU will be providing kit for all teams free of charge. These will be club kits and must be returned at the end of the year. If you are wanting to keep your kit you can buy it back from the union via the website at the end of the BUCS season.

The leisurewear store has had an update with a new range. You can find here (link). You can purchase these individually. The lead time for these on average are:
