WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO
The University of Greenwich hockey team is a competitive and fun/social sports team. It doesn’t matter if you’ve played for years or if you've never held a hockey stick before, hockey is a place for everyone. If you are looking for a great way to keep fit and make friends, field hockey might be right for you - so get involved! We have three talented teams to choose from, the Men’s, Women’s and Mixed.
Our Men’s and Women’s Hockey teams are in the BUCS Hockey Premier League, and our Mixed Hockey Team is in the London University Sports League. We recommend playing mixed hockey if you cannot play Men's/Women's matches on Wednesdays, as matches for mixed hockey are played on Sundays. The mixed team is also a great place to make friends and play with other genders, it is also great for those on placement.
We cater to all levels of abilities from the very basics to those who are more advanced, so you don't worry if you've never played before!
As well as being a competitive team that enjoys a win, we are also a very social and friendly group of people so if you are looking to make new friends, this is the place for you! We hold a (themed) social every Wednesday night, so we can have fun, get to know one another and play a few games.
TRAINING
Training is the best way to get started! We hold our training sessions every Monday evening at The Avery Hill 3G pitches (Shuttle bus runs from Greenwich Campus or 286 from Greenwich to University Of Greenwich Southwood Site).
Training times:
- Mens and Womens 7pm - 8:30pm
- Mixed 8:30pm - 9pm
There's no need to bring anything fancy just some trainers, sportswear and a gumshield. If you’re looking to dedicate more time to hockey and our teams we are more than happy to advise you further on any kit or equipment you may want to invest in.
