Team Greenwich is the collective name for the Sports Clubs run by students at Greenwich Students' Union. Each year many clubs train and compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) tournaments. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, BUCS originally postponed activity for the 20/21 season until the start of 2021. Unfortunately, the pandemic has continued and key decisions have been made by the Government to reduce travel around the country and non-essential activity.
It is with great regret that BUCS have announced that all leagues will be cancelled for the 20/21 season as a result of the new national lockdown which came into affect. This means that all activity as well as the leagues has been cancelled until 01/03 in the first instance. For full details check out BUCS's article.
As a result of the national lockdown training will be cancelled until further notice, we will be working with NGB's once new guidance is produced but this is likely to stay in effect until the end of the academic year.
The activities team are still hoping for a Varsity this year whether that be virtually or physically, currently we are looking towards virtually. However, we have a plan in place to deliver a physical event so if guidelines allow for this we will be sure to communicate and deliver the event as best we can given the current circumstances.
Whilst the above information and update is disappointing, we hope that our members do remain active and participate in GSUmove and our Team Greenwich Challenges that will be posted on the Team Greenwich Instagram account. Club committees are run by volunteers and have been doing a great job to maintain a social environment for their members online during this pandemic and their continued effort is fantastic for the continuation of their Clubs for the upcoming season.
