What is the Big Choice?

We have reviewed how your Students' Union (SU) makes decisions on your behalf. We’ve asked you questions like:

·  Do you feel represented?
·  What are your priorities?
·  What changes do you need at University?
·  Do you know how the SU can help you make these changes?

After all this research, students had the chance to make the choice as to how the Union is run.

Why are we doing this?

The Union spends over £100,000 a year to pay four students to make decisions on your behalf. Only 8% of students vote to elect them.

“We need to radically change the way we are representing our students and the structures of how students can get involved with us. Something needs to change.”
Meike Imberg, Union President

The data we have collected shows that your Union isn’t currently reflecting your needs. From our low engagement with BAME, Mature and Postgraduate students (who make up the majority of the student population) to the lack of voter participation, we want to understand how to represent you better.

“Change is difficult but it starts with improvement and finding the right key to open engagement through real action”
BAME Network Representative

We believe that change should empower you to have more ownership over your experiences and time at the University of Greenwich.

In October 2018, students had the opportunity to take control of these changes. Your Union is for you, and how we run is determined by you.
