Liberate the Debate

'Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.'; a great society with national links which aims to advocate the belief that speech shouldn't be censored or criminalised.

Who are we?

Liberate the Debate (LtD) is a non-profit organisation established as a national organisation in November 2018, with the purpose of promoting freedom of speech at universities in the UK. Originally starting as a society at the University of Sussex under Peter Anson, Edward Seccombe and Matthew Spencer in the early months of 2017, LtD experienced unprecedented growth and popularity, eventually even winning the award of 'Best New Society,' in May 2018.

After taking over the politics society at the University of Greenwich (UoG), a decision was made by the newly-appointed President to join LtD and reform the politics society into a Greenwich branch, since there was a mutual agreeance on the vital importance of freedom of speech being an imperative foundation in the discussion of political topics, which can lead to meaningful societal change that affects everyone, and should therefore be respected to the highest of standards.

“The man who asks a question is a fool for a minute, the man who does not ask is a fool for life.”, so if you have any questions at all, no matter how seemingly large or small, please don't be shy, and feel free to email Paul J. Black; the LtD Greenwich Representative at pb9775n@gre.ac.uk.
