Our members get the special price of £6 for entry AND equipment hire on Wednesdays and Fridays at The Reach. Normally £7 extra for equipment! We also get a 10% discount at the cafe inside the centre. We also have discounted £5 entry and free gear rentals at the Hackney Wick Boulder Project on Wednesday. We aim to have regular meetups on Wednesday at these locations, though as a member you are entitled to go and enjoy these benefits on your own as well. Simply show them your school ID and that you're a member of the Mountaineering/Climbing Society and you're in!
What do we do?
Every Wednesday we meet up and go climbing at The Reach Climbing Wall in Woolwich or Hackney Wick Boulder Project in Hackney Wick. We also run several trips throughout the year spreading them across each term. In the past we have run outdoor trips to Harrisons Rocks and to the Peak District. We are also aiming to do society socials bi-weekly. We hope to have a large variety of different social events, if you have any ideas realating to the socials feel free to post them on the society page.
How do I get involved?
Head to our Facebook group and post on the wall https://www.facebook.com/groups/1984558968427283/ or send an email to email@example.com and we will get back to you with all the information you need.
What if I’m scared of heights?
We currently have a few members afarid of heights and have had many in the past. We have found that starting very slow and never pushing you to do something you aren’t ready for works quite well. We will never push you to climb higher than you feel comfortable with. If you feel like you would like to climb higher we will help you to work on developing your confidence.
When do you climb?
Every Wednesday from around 2:30PM onwards at The Reach and sometimes Fridays. If you feel like you need help getting there feel free to message us on the page or the email and we will arrange for someome to meet you at a prefered location.
What should I bring?
- University of Greenwich ID card
- Comfy clothes to climb in
- £6 for Entry
What if I have no idea how to climb?
To start with, it's honestly as simple as walking up a flight of stairs. Our committee will work one on one with you to give you all the skills you need to get you off the ground safely. With some trainee climbing instructors we can show everything you need.
If you come along to one of our open days you will be shown everything you need in order to get climbing safely by our commitee and by instructors at The Reach.
