Welcome update, Friday 11th September

Welcome is just around the corner! Our first activities start on Saturday 12th September, and there’ll be weeks’ worth of activity from us and our student groups, and from GKSU if you’re in Medway.

Following the announcement from the government this week about Covid-19 and changes to socialising, we’ve been reviewing our plans for in-person activity as part of our Welcome programmes. In light of the guidelines issued, we’re still planning on running all physical activity listed on our websites (greenwichsu.co.uk/welcome/2020/events and gksu.co.uk/whats-on), and will be adding more information to our event listings in the coming days about any extra precautions that we will be taking, and that you need to take when you attend each event.

When you attend any of our events, we need you to do the following:

  • Book a ticket and/or table in advance
  • Take part in track-and-trace for each event - this will be available to do via your mobile
  • Wear a face mask if required
  • Follow any one-way systems in spaces and use designated entrances and exits
  • Follow the 'rule of six', being in groups of no more than 6 if attending events with others
  • Maintain social distancing
  • Regularly sanitise or wash your hands - there will be sanitising stations available.

Throughout all our planning, safety has been a priority and will continue to be, whilst we also ensure that there are opportunities for you – our members – to meet other students, have fun, and get a great start to your journey at Greenwich.

To find out what we’re doing and what you can do to keep COVID safe, visit our websites:

If you have any questions or concerns, contact us at greenwichsu@gre.ac.uk, and at hello@gksu.co.uk if you’re coming to Medway.

In the meantime, check out our websites, follow us on social media for more regular updates, and we look forward to seeing you soon!

GSU President Bilal Ijaz says: “We want every student to feel welcome this year. Trust us that we are doing everything we can to ensure you feel safe on campus. My new campaign #GreenwichCares asks that students and staff follow the guidelines to show that we are all looking out for each other. For our International students who have been quarantining upon arrival, we know you’ll be excited to get involved with the activities on campus when it is safe for you to do so.”
