Introducing global greenwich image with flags

You may already know the Students’ Union exists to support all students to achieve their full potential at the University of Greenwich. But, we recognise that International students often have a lot more they need support with as they arrive at University. This could be a language barrier, applying for visas, or this year quarantine due to Covid-19 government guidance.

GSU and the University of Greenwich are proud to announce the launch of the Global Greenwich project and its flagship Global Centre.

The Global Centre will be a physical and digital hub of information and events, run by GSU staff and working closely with University, to deliver an invaluable support network for Greenwich’s international student body.

Students will be able to access the Global Centre across all three campuses, as well as through a digital hub on the GSU website.

Throughout the year, international students can look forward to one-off events and opportunities, ranging from cultural society meet and greets to English language workshops, and more.

We are excited to work with the University to deliver this fantastic project, which we hope will engage and support international students as they make the transition to life in the UK.

Global Centres are supported by our Global Ambassadors - these are students who will be available to help. We can help you to make use of services at the University and in the wider community. These will be based at each campus over the next couple of weeks starting in Greenwich on September 20th.

You can find out more about Global Greenwich here.

Information for International students arriving this year:

You will be sent pre-arrival communications providing links to the most current quarantine/isolation government guidance and requesting that those who are required to isolate upon arrival inform the Accommodation Services team via a check in form.

Each student identified is sent more specific information as to how Accommodation Services will support them in arriving and checking in at halls, ordering food and essentials and provides information about bedding, towel and kitchen packs available for students to order, ready for their arrival.

You will be provided with contact information for Resident Assistants and Accommodation Services to contact should you have any queries throughout your isolation period and for the duration of your stay.

Students who are required to go into government-managed quarantine facilities, and go onto stay in University of Greenwich accommodation for a full contracted year will receive an accommodation discount of £1750.

Students who are required to go into government-managed quarantine facilities, but then do not stay in University of Greenwich accommodation are able to access an international travel bursary of £500 from the international hardship fund.

The details on this are here and the university should notify all students who are eligible.

CAS

The University is working on these and the International Office will send out updates regarding your CAS. This is a very busy time, so please be patient.
