Part-Time Receptionist / Class Assistant

Based in a community centre in the heart of Greenwich Town, this exciting role involves taking on some instructional responsibilities of students aged 3 to 18 as well as the Receptionist responsibilities in our growing Centre.

 

This role would suit candidates looking for long-term casual work. Classes are held 2 days a week –

Tuesdays (3:30pm-6:30pm) and Saturdays (10:30 – 2pm).

There are no classes during Christmas, Easter and the last two weeks of the Summer holidays. You will be required to work during the half-term holidays.

Rate of pay : £8 - £10/hr

Receptionist duties and responsibilities (Primary role)

  • To be the friendly and welcoming face for the business when families arrive at the Centre offering support and guidance and building strong relationships with the families.
  • To coordinate the smooth running of class day routines and provide general administration duties as and when requested by the Centre Instructor.
  • To take messages from parents and communicate information on behalf of the Instructor
  • To attend supervision, training and meetings as and when required.
  • To work with, abide to and positively promote all Kumon policies and/or procedures including but not limited to, health and safety matters.
  • To assist in setting up and clearing down the classroom in a timely manner to ensure the environment is ready for activity when the first/last student arrives/leaves.

Class Assistant duties and responsibilities (Secondary role)

  • To help promote an enjoyment of learning.
  • To observe and assist children with their work on a one-to-one basis and provide feedback to Instructor
  • To accurately mark and record student work and complete reporting methods as and where required.
  • To supervise specific student activities including but not limited to; listening to recitation of times tables, and listening to student reading.
  • To confidently liaise with and provide feedback to parents as required.
  • To be calm, attentive and always focussed on the children's needs.

 

 

Key skills and experience required for this role are:

  • A passion for education and the development of children.
  • Ability to demonstrate close attention to detail.
  • Ability to react quickly in situations and use initiative.
  • Excellent communication skills and computer literacy skills
  • A strong grasp of written and spoken English and a sound knowledge of maths.
  • GCSE English Language and Mathematics, minimum grade 6/7 required.
  • 'A' level maths is highly desirable and preferable.
  • Ability to learn new processes and concepts quickly and efficiently.
  • Full training in the Kumon programme will be given. A successful DBS check will be required and will be partly paid by the employer.
  • The role will suit someone who is confident, professional, patient with a positive attitude to learning.
