Job Purpose
Student Researcher will contribute to the design and delivery of research projects to understand the needs and views of GSU members. The post holder will be responsible for a variety of tasks in collaborating on planning research projects, the delivery of those projects, and analysing data to form recommendations.
Duties and key responsibilities
Planning Research Projects
- Contribute ideas and expertise to research projects commissioned by GSU members, relevant GSU departments, and the University.
- Contribute to the research methodology and design of projects, with the goals of the project and an understanding of GSU’s membership in mind.
- Contribute ideas to the format of communication materials advertising projects.
- Ensure that all research projects are accessible to all relevant sections of GSU’s diverse membership, and that projects facilitate the representation of the most marginalised members.
Delivering Research Projects
- Copy write communication materials to advertise research projects to GSU members.
- Be an active part of the delivery of projects to students, including but not limited to: facilitating focus groups, canvassing students in University facilities and distributing communication materials.
- Be active in the student community when developing and promoting research projects.
- Collaborate in the delivery of events to promote research projects.
- Analyse data gathered from projects and present findings in clear written format.
- Collaborate with GSU staff, elected representatives, and GSU members in creating recommendations based on the data gathered.
- Present data to democratic forums and elected representatives within GSU to help others understand the findings of the data and suggest recommendations.
- Collaborate with GSU staff on measuring the impact of research, and recommending improvements to the process.

Personal Specification
Experience
- Writing reports based on research.
- Managing multiple priorities at the same time.
- Desired: An academic or employment background in designing and delivering research projects using quantitative and qualitative data.
- Desired: Understanding and/or experience of Postgraduate study.
Skills and abilities
- Clear communication skills, in both virtual and physical settings.
- Ability to troubleshoot difficult situations, and deal with them calmly, efficiently and effectively.
- Writing skills – produce reports and ability to write succinct documents on complex areas.
- IT skills at a level that supports report writing, email, internet and database.
- Time management and organisational skills.
- Ability to engage and motivate others.
- Self-motivated with the confidence to work alone but can also work co-operatively and flexibly as part of a team.
- Ability to stay focused and efficient in the face of changing priorities.
Knowledge
- Some knowledge of University of Greenwich, including student demographics.
- Understanding of issues relating to Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Liberation, and how this applies to Universities.
Education and training
- Must be a current University of Greewich student for Academic Year 2022-23.
