Disability History Month will soon come to a close on 20 December. We’ve had a fantastic month of free online workshops and activities for students and staff.

That’s included a bespoke webinar by the Employability Service on succeeding in the job market as a disabled student, and a talk by Paralympian and current exchange student Desirée Vila Bargiela who spoke on her impressive journey.

The #Gym4Everyone initiative developed in collaboration with Paul Barnes, Head of Active Life at the University, has also got off to a positive start. Student staff are being briefed on the best ways to support disabled gym-goers, who received free gym memberships during Disability History Month. A survey has also provided invaluable insights into best practices that GSU and UoG can implement going forward.

To conclude, we’ve compiled five simple, actionable ways you can be an effective ally and be inclusive of disabled friends, students, and colleagues – even after the month is over.
