Nominations

The Student Led Teaching Awards are completely student-led to ensure authenticity for the recognition that staff members receive. This means that;

  • Only students can nominate staff members

  • Only students sit on the board that discuss the short-list staff awards

  • Only students can vote for the winners of the staff awards

  • Students assist and lead on organising and presenting the event

We welcome the support from the University, and look forward to working with staff across all levels and departments to champion the Student Led Teaching Awards for years to come.

Nominations will open on 25th November 2019

Nominations will close on 27th March 2020

The shortlist will be determined in April 2020.

The winners will be announced at the Awards ceremony on the 14th of May 2020.

 

Content of nominations will be published by us (Greenwich Students' Union) in an anonymous format, online and/or in print. Content will also be shared with the University for use internally and in promotional materials. In both instances, no personal information (e.g. your name, course, student number) will be shared or published.

Outstanding Personal Tutor Award

(1 winner per Faculty) 

Criteria: Does your personal tutor support you and understand the different challenges students face? Are they able to accommodate your needs by using a variety of communication methods e.g. more than just by email? Do they make themselves available to their tutees? Do you think that they deserve recognition for the extra effort they put in to support you? This is an opportunity to show how much you appreciate the hard work your personal tutor goes through to support their tutees.

 

Inspirational Teaching Award

(1 winner per Faculty) 

Criteria: An exceptional member of teaching staff who engages students through their expertise and passion in the subject. They are able to make the content so interesting or relevant to the students that this has a transformative impact on the student experience and their passion for good teaching will motivate students to perform academically at their full potential. Their teaching will immerse students in the course, providing them with the opportunity to think differently or critically. The teacher may be an expert in their area and inspire students with up to date research-led teaching. The teacher may go out of their way to help students, acknowledging that some students need extra support.    

                                                                                                                                    

Supervisor of the Year

(1 winner per Faculty) 

Criteria: Has your supervisor been instrumental to your success in your project/dissertation/thesis? This award is for those Personal Supervisors, Dissertation Supervisors or Research Supervisors that go above and beyond to promote a brilliant student experience. It is for supervisors that are approachable, accessible but also proactive in offering help and support for students. They will be highly skilled in resolving a range of student issues as well as offering excellent personal development opportunities for students. Both Undergraduate and Postgraduate supervisors are eligible for this award.              

                                                        

Faculty Star Award

(1 winner per Faculty)

Criteria: Is there someone within your faculty who, were it not for them, you wouldn’t be where you are right now? This member of staff has gone above and beyond to help you.

All staff at the University of Greenwich contribute towards the student experience and this award is to recognise the hard work of all staff who exceed expectations to achieve this. Whether this is an Employability Manager, your Lecturer, Department Administrator, a Computing Technician, Learning Technologist, Librarian, an internal mentor or Security, we want to recognise the excellent work of these people. Both academic and non-academic staff are eligible for this award.   

 

Student Support Services Award

(Team and Individual)

Criteria: Is there a team or individual with the Student Support Services (such as; Wellbeing team, Student Registration, Administrative Services, Accommodation, Facilities Management, Research and Enterprise Training Institute, Library services etc.) who, were it not for them, you wouldn’t be where you are right now? Has a member of staff gone above and beyond to help you to ensure you received the best possible student experience? If so, nominate them for this award.

 

Extra Mile Award

(1 overall winner)
Criteria: Is there a member of staff without whom you wouldn’t be where you are right now? This member of staff has gone above and beyond to help you. In short, they have gone the extra mile!

All staff at the University of Greenwich contribute towards the student experience and this award is to recognise the hard work of all staff who exceed expectations to achieve this. This can be any staff member, even if they aren’t associated with a specific Faculty! Both academic and non-academic staff are eligible for this award.

Faculty Officer of the year

(1 overall winner)

Criteria: This student has positively fulfilled their role as a Faculty officer by successfully representing their faculty and programme representatives on a Faculty and wider University level.

They went above and beyond in their representation role throughout campaigns and initiatives with the goal to improve the student experience.

And have made an outstanding effort in their role as a Faculty Officer and as a Representative on Student Council and Union Academic Council. Only current elected Faculty Officers are eligible for this award.

 

Please use examples of where they have represented the needs and aspirations of students within their role to the University and what techniques they utilised to do this (eg. Communication tools). Actively contributed to discussions and decisions and actively sought the views of students to make sure their cohort was represented effectively. We are particularly interested in examples of affecting change and positively improving student’s experiences due to their work within the role.

Programme Representative of the year

(1 winner per Faculty)

Criteria: This student has positively fulfilled their role as a Programme Representative by successfully representing their peers and programme on a local and departmental level. They’ve made an outstanding effort to communicate, engage and consult with their peers and assured that the student voice was represented to the University. Only current elected Programme Representatives are elidable for this award.

Please use examples of where they have represented the needs and aspirations of students within their role to the University and what techniques they utilised to do this (eg. Communication tools). Actively contributed to discussions and decisions and actively sought the views of students to make sure their cohort was represented effectively. We are particularly interested in examples of affecting change and positively improving student’s experiences due to their work within the role.

Academic Society of the year

Criteria: This student group has made an outstanding contribution to their programme/field of study in the way of providing a social and academic hub for their members. They have actively involved themselves in the Academic Communities project at GSU, working to engage more students and utilise all of the resources available to them.

Please use examples of instances where the group went above and beyond to ensure that their event(s) achieved maximum levels of success in terms of experience for their attendee/members. Also, how they have worked to enhance the reputation of the society within GSU as well as their University department. Please include specific event/activity examples to show the above.
