What is the Activities Committee?

The Activities Committee is a group of student volunteers who make up a representative body for all student-led groups at GSU. This group makes important decisions and works with GSU to ensure the support we provide, and the Union can be the best it can be for you. The committee have 4 core purposes:

Represent students

By engaging with students, you will be able to gather student feedback regarding GSU services. This will involve physically gathering feedback on campus, but also distributing online forms.

Work with students

Collaborate with the Chair and Engagement and Opportunities Coordinators to help deliver timely work relevant to societies. This can involve helping with Awareness Months and being the faces of the Save Our Societies Campaign.

Make decisions

Help decide on student society ratification and de-ratification each month.

Aid with Recognition & Awards

Help with shortlisting for the sports and societies awards, aiding with the planning of the Activities Awards.

The Activities Committee is governed by their terms of reference which can be viewed below.

Activities Committee Terms of Reference

Activities Committee Structure

The committee has 11 members (1 chair and 10 committee roles). The chair is a GSU Officer. Any committee leader of a student group can be elected to the 10 committee roles. 3 of the roles must specifically be held by a committee member from an academic society, sports club, and societies. This is to ensure there is a balanced committee.

The other roles can be elected from any group, but we aim to be diverse from other categories including campaigns, common interest, culture, faith, media, Music, Performance & Creative, Political and Volunteering.

It is important that every year, we have a fully elected Activities Committee to support GSU to be able to deliver the best possible service to its members and Student Activities. Find out more below about elections and how you could get involved.

Committee Meetings

The committee meets approximately once a month with the Engagement and Opportunities Team and the GSU Officer who is the committee chair. Meetings will have regular agendas that include:

  • Ratifying new student groups
  • De-ratifying student groups
  • Code of Conduct Breaches by student groups
  • Feedback from student leaders & recommended actions to improve

If you want the committee discuss an issue that you think is important, you can drop an agenda suggestion to the Engagement and Opportunities Team on activities@gre.ac.uk.
