Statement regarding the new collaboration between the University of Greenwich and the University of Kent.

Today, the University of Greenwich has announced an intention to formally collaborate with the University of Kent to create a new “super-university”

You can read the University of Greenwich statement on their website.

The collaboration will be a trailblazing model, establishing a first-of-its-kind multi university group, which will create a blueprint for other institutions to follow. The new university group will become one of the largest higher education institutions in the UK and the largest in the South of England.

Greenwich Students’ Union welcomes this exciting move. As we develop our new strategy, we will work closely with students and the University to build a high-quality student experience that continues to deliver sector-leading support for students.

Students will be at forefront of this process. We’ll ensure that any future changes to Greenwich Students’ Union will ensure the best possible offer for students within the new “super-university” structure.

We’re excited to work with Kent Students’ Union to shape the future of higher education and student experience in the South-East.

What does this mean for students at the University of Greenwich?

For students, there will be no visible change, with applications continuing as normal to each institution and degrees awarded in the name of Kent or Greenwich. Professor Harrington said she could tell students “absolutely categorically” they could complete any course they are already enrolled on, including those starting university in the autumn.

The University has produced an FAQ document for students.

Students are at the heart of what we do at Greenwich Students’ Union. We’ll work closely with the University over the next year to ensure the student voice is heard as the partnership comes together.

During the coming academic year we’ll continue to deliver a high-quality Students’ Union experience for all students. We launched our amazing Welcome programme this week, and will continue to Welcome new students, deliver unforgettable events, support a hugely diverse range of student groups, represent all students, and offer an award-winning advice service.

If you have any questions about the changes then please get in touch at greenwichsu@gre.ac.uk
