Following successful consultation and collaboration between your GSU Officer team and Student and Academic Services Executive Director, Rachel Ashton, significant work has been completed to address two of the biggest challenges that students currently face at Greenwich; Timetabling and Tuition fee payments.

Timetabling

You said: Students have consistently told us that Timetables are slow to be released, hard to access and can change with little to no warning.

The solution:

  1. The University have updated the software provider which is used to create and share timetables. This latest edition features new ‘Publish’ and ‘Open Timetables’ which will allow more transparency around your timetable.
  2. A new Head of Timetabling position is being recruited to have a dedicated staff member focusing on improving and resolving timetabling issues.
  3. An institution wide approach to timetabling is being undertaken with an aim to overhaul the current system to make it easier, clearer and more student-focused.
  4. Finally, a large piece of work is beginning to review spaces across campus to make sure spaces are being utilised effectively.

Timeline: The immediate changes will be implemented by September 2025 and the larger projects are currently underway. We will continue to update as these develop.

Tuition fee payments

You said: International students currently have to pay 50% of their fees upfront as they join their second and third year. Students also currently have very limited options to pay their tuition fees in instalments.

The solution:

  1. A new finance system has been sourced by the University that will enable students greater transparency across their tuition fees. Students will be able to view their outstanding balance and make payments directly via the online portal.
  2. The new system will allow payment plans to be made with greater ease. This will mean that students can space out their payments in more affordable chunks.
  3. Students will be given more control to chose their payment plan and monitor what they owe. This will give you, the students, the power to manage your money!

Timeline: This new system is expected to go live by September 2025.
