University is more than a degree, it’s a platform to lead, influence, and create change. For Aymen El Morabet, his time at Greenwich has been defined by turning opportunity into measurable impact. From representing his cohort to shaping governance decisions across campuses, Aymen’s journey reflects what happens when ambition meets action.
At GSU, we’re proud to spotlight students who don’t just participate in university life they help shape it. Aymen El Morabet, a BSc (Hons) Business Computing student currently on placement at Sony Europe as a Business Operations Analyst, is one of those students.
Originally from Casablanca, Morocco, Aymen’s journey at Greenwich has been defined by ambition, leadership, and a commitment to turning student voice into measurable impact.
Technology, Strategy & Purpose
Aymen chose Business Computing because it sits at the intersection of technology, business, and problem-solving three areas he has been passionate about since childhood. Growing up fascinated not just by how systems were built, but by how creativity transforms into products people actually use, he was particularly drawn to UX design and the power of thoughtful decision-making.
But for Aymen, education was never just about technical knowledge. As a first-generation immigrant navigating a completely new education system in the UK, he quickly learned how to build his own path independently seeking information, creating opportunity, and refusing to let circumstance define his ambition.
A personal motivator he often returns to is his nine-year-old self who dreamed of studying abroad. Every milestone he reaches is grounded in that original sense of possibility.
Rebuilding Intentionally at Greenwich
Aymen’s journey to Greenwich followed an unexpected change in his study plans that required relocating to the UK at the last minute. Rather than seeing it as a setback, he treated it as an opportunity to rebuild intentionally. From day one, he engaged beyond the classroom attending GSU events, careers sessions, society fairs, and networking opportunities to understand how the university ecosystem worked and how students could influence it.
His first formal step into involvement was becoming a Programme Representative, driven by curiosity about how decisions were made and how feedback could lead to change. That interest deepened quickly.
By the end of his first year, Aymen was appointed as a Student Trustee of Greenwich Students’ Union, contributing to governance, strategy, and accountability at a senior level.
Leadership Across Campuses
Over time, Aymen held a range of influential roles, including:
-
Student Trustee
-
Chair of the Scrutiny Panel (across all campuses)
-
Programme Representative
-
Senior UK Student Recruitment Ambassador
-
Committee Member of the Greenwich Consulting Club
Chairing scrutiny panels required leading difficult conversations, evaluating elected officers’ campaigns, and balancing challenge with collaboration. Through this, he learned that leadership isn’t about visibility or authority, it’s about trust, clarity, and accountability.
Turning Student Voice into Institutional Change
Aymen reviewed and approved over 24 student-led campaigns across three campuses, ensuring initiatives were inclusive, measurable, and aligned with genuine student needs.
One particularly meaningful outcome was leading the scrutiny panel that approved and evaluated the introduction of an additional payment plan for international students, improving financial accessibility and flexibility. Seeing student concerns translate into tangible institutional change is something he values deeply.
As a Senior Student Recruitment Ambassador, Aymen also managed a team of 15 ambassadors during Clearing, processing applications from diverse backgrounds and helping students secure life-changing university offers.
Beyond Campus: National Impact & Sony Placement
Beyond Greenwich, Aymen represented the university at professional insight days and programmes with organisations including PwC (as a mentee), Northern Trust, and Sony. He also competed in a consulting hackathon in partnership with the Metropolitan Police, where his team placed second by proposing data-driven improvements to domestic violence response systems.
A defining milestone in his journey has been securing a placement at Sony Europe becoming the first University of Greenwich student to intern there as a Business Operations Analyst. He credits his GSU involvement for helping him articulate leadership through impact, demonstrating evidence over titles, and standing out with substance.
Recognition & Measurable Achievement
Aymen’s achievements reflect both excellence and consistency:
-
Promoted to Senior UK Student Recruitment Ambassador within four months
-
Maintaining a first-class academic average
-
Holding senior governance roles at a young age
-
Nominated for the 2025 PwC Mentee of the Year Award
-
Receiving multiple GSU recognitions, including Academic representative of the year, Society leader badge, Student staff badge, Best new academic society (Greenwich Consulting Club)
For Aymen, the most meaningful achievement isn’t a single award, it’s the trust placed in him and knowing his work created measurable impact.
Career Clarity & Future Vision
While he began his degree aiming to become a software engineer, his governance and stakeholder-facing experiences helped him discover where he thrives most at the intersection of technology, strategy, and people.
Looking ahead, Aymen aims to continue building experience in consulting and strategy, leaving every system better than he found it. Beyond career success, he remains committed to advocating for access, representation, and opportunity for international and underrepresented students proving that non-linear paths can lead to exceptional outcomes.
A Message to Other Students
Aymen’s advice to Greenwich students is simple:
Don’t underestimate your voice. You don’t need to have everything figured out to get involved! curiosity and willingness are enough. Whether Greenwich was your first choice or an unexpected reroute, your journey is what you make of it. And GSU is a powerful platform to discover strengths you didn’t even know you had.
