At GSU, we’re proud to spotlight students whose journeys reflect purpose, growth, and impact. This term, we’re excited to share the story of Olanrewaju O. Famudele, a Master’s student in Marketing Management, whose time at Greenwich has been shaped by resilience, creativity, and a deep commitment to using his skills to uplift others.

Finding Purpose Through Marketing

Olanrewaju chose to study Marketing Management at the University of Greenwich to gain both academic and practical insight into how ideas, stories, and brands influence people’s decisions. From the very beginning, he was drawn to marketing not just as a business discipline, but as a powerful tool for communication and impact.

Starting at Greenwich

Beginning his journey at Greenwich came with a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Adjusting to a new academic environment while living with severe sight impairment was daunting, but the welcoming university and GSU community helped him settle in and find his footing.

One of his earliest and most impactful experiences was volunteering with GenC, the university’s first student-led marketing agency. As one of its founding members, Olanrewaju had the opportunity to apply classroom learning to real client projects from an early stage, marking his first step into practical marketing consultancy.

Creativity, Culture, and Community

Beyond consultancy and marketing, Olanrewaju has contributed to the cultural life of the university through events from APSARA society and a student Fashion Project, where he performed his original music on campus, celebrating diversity and creativity within the Greenwich community.

He also volunteered with GenC, working on real client briefs including a campaign for Samaritans, and built consultancy skills through his involvement with the Greenwich Consultancy Club. For Olanrewaju, these experiences showed that leadership isn’t about titles, but about contribution, collaboration, and helping others recognise their potential.

Turning Challenges into Impact

One of the most meaningful projects Olanrewaju worked on was the Samaritans campaign, where he contributed to messaging, copywriting, and strategy with a strong focus on empathy and mental health awareness. Alongside this, adapting to the UK education system while managing severe sight impairment brought ongoing challenges, from navigating campus to adjusting to new teaching styles and academic expectations.

Recognition & Achievement

One achievement Olanrewaju is particularly proud of is winning the My Marketing Experience simulation game as part of the HOMAY Denim team. Starting in fifth position and finishing first, the success reflected strong strategic thinking, teamwork, and effective task allocation.

Completing his Master’s degree in Marketing Management stands as another major milestone representing perseverance, growth, and the fulfilment of a deeply personal goal.

Looking Ahead

Olanrewaju’s next goal is to build a career in marketing consultancy, supporting brands and organisations through clear strategy and meaningful communication. Alongside this, he plans to continue developing his music career, using music as a tool for inspiration, faith, and encouragement.

His long-term vision is to be a light in his world showing that purpose, creativity, and belief can coexist with professional excellence, and that impact can be created through both business and art.

GSU Celebrates Olanrewaju

Olanrewaju’s journey is a powerful reminder that university life is about more than lectures and exams it’s about connection, courage, and discovering purpose. Through resilience, creativity, and service, he has made a meaningful contribution to the Greenwich community.

We’re proud to feature Olanrewaju O. Famudele as part of our GSU Student Stories series, and we look forward to seeing the impact he continues to create.
