From student ambassador to graduate engineer, ThankGod Nkoro has turned his curiosity into a career and his time at Greenwich into a story of growth, leadership, and impact. His journey shows how saying yes to opportunities can open doors far beyond campus.
At GSU, we celebrate students who take every opportunity to learn, lead, and make an impact. Through societies, volunteering, mentoring, and leadership roles, Greenwich students continually show how involvement beyond the classroom can shape bright futures.
One student who embodies this spirit is ThankGod Nkoro, an Electrical and Electronic Engineering student whose journey shows how curiosity, perseverance, and community involvement can spark both personal and professional transformation.
Finding Purpose Through Engineering
Driven by a lifelong curiosity about how things work and a passion for innovation, ThankGod chose to study Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Greenwich. Drawn by the Faculty of Engineering’s reputation and its hands-on learning approach, he found a space that encouraged both technical exploration and human connection.
“I’ve always been motivated by solving complex problems and using my skills to make a positive impact, whether that’s through mentoring, promoting sustainability, or improving accessibility for others” he shared.
Stepping Into Leadership
From his very first year, ThankGod began shaping his university journey through active involvement. Starting as a Student Ambassador in 2022, he soon became an Outreach Ambassador, representing the university and inspiring prospective students.
That early experience sparked a series of roles that built his confidence and leadership skills from Partnership and Pathways Officer within the Outreach Team, to Peer Mentor with VYGO, and a Project Contributor collaborating with the Digital Marketing and Events & Marketing teams.
Each role taught him something new: communication, teamwork, empathy, and how leadership is about listening as much as it is about leading.
Creating Impact Beyond the Classroom
Among his many contributions, one that stands out is his work on the Accessible Plan Project (APP). By designing key student information in accessible formats using Adobe InDesign and Acrobat, he directly improved the experience for future students, ensuring accessibility for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic years.
He also supported major promotional projects with the university’s Events and Marketing team, helping to shape the way Greenwich is represented globally, a proud moment that highlighted the real-world impact of student collaboration.
Representing Greenwich on Global Platforms
His dedication and professionalism led to incredible opportunities to represent Greenwich beyond campus. He attended:
-
The International Student Roundtable Session at PIE Live Europe (March 2023)
-
The 3rd Annual Commercialising Quantum Global Event hosted by The Economist (June 2024)
-
The Fusion Fest Event hosted by The Economist (April 2025)
His passion for sustainability also saw him take on the role of Climate Action Project Educator with Take Action Global, earning him an invitation to the Blue Earth Summit in London (October 2024).
These experiences showcased not just his academic ability, but also the confidence and communication skills built through his GSU and university involvement.
Looking Ahead
His next goal? To become a Chartered Engineer and lead projects that merge engineering and sustainability, contributing to the renewable energy and quantum technology sectors. He also hopes to continue inspiring others as a STEM Ambassador, motivating young minds to explore the endless possibilities within science and technology.
A Message to Fellow Students
“Say yes to opportunities even the small ones. Your time at Greenwich is more than a degree; it’s a space to build your future self. Every experience, from volunteering to mentoring, teaches you something that will stay with you long after you graduate.”
A Story That Inspires
ThankGod’s journey is a testament to the power of involvement, resilience, and curiosity. Through his leadership, mentoring, and commitment to creating change, he has shown what’s possible when students embrace every opportunity that Greenwich and GSU have to offer.
We’re incredibly proud to celebrate ThankGod Nkoro as part of our GSU Student Stories series. His story reminds us that every act of involvement big or small builds a brighter future, for both individuals and the community.
