A huge campaign win on tuition fee payment plans, inspiring conversations on race and support for international students. It’s been a busy second year as your GSU Officer for Sodiq.

Greenwich Students’ Union is a democratic organisation run by students, for students. Every year, you elect student Officers to lead the work we do, and represent your voice to the University.

Sodiq was first elected in 2023, and was successfully re-elected in 2024. Having served two terms as your representative, his time as an Officer will come to an end this summer.

Your Officer Team for 2025/26 was elected in February this year. They’ll officially step into the role in July, ready to welcome all new and returning students in September.

Payment Instalment Plan

Responding to concerns raised by students, Sodiq led a campaign for a more flexible payment plan for tuition fees. This resulted in the University committing to introduce a new payment system in September 2025 which introduces more flexibility over payment plans for students.

This is a significant step forward to addressing a big issue facing students at the University of Greenwich.

Race Table Talk

Across a series of Race Table Talk events throughout the year, Sodiq has engaged over 100 students in meaningful conversations about race and inclusion. The key findings and suggestions for improvement from these conversations were presented to key teams at the University, including the Deputy Vice Chancellor.

Through bringing together diverse student voices, Sodiq hopes to drive institutional change and improve the student experience.

International Advice Week

Working with the University’s International Advice Team, Sodiq helped to develop and launch International Advice Week.

The week included workshops, one-on-one consultations, and online resources to ensure international students were well-prepared for their next steps after completing their studies.

Podcast Sessions

Inspired by Black History Month, Sodiq launched a series of podcasts exploring race, identity and the student experience. Hosted by Dr Kenisha Linton-Williams, guests have included the NUS President, Amira Campbell, and Dr Myrtle Emmanuel, EDI Race Advisor to the Vice Chancellor.
