You’ve met them as your elected GSU Officers but who are they beyond the role? This year, we want you to know your officers not just as representatives, but as fellow students with passions, experiences, and campaigns they’re excited to share with you.
Being a student is more than lectures, deadlines, and exams. It’s about finding your voice, building a community, and shaping your own experience at Greenwich.
Your GSU Officers for 2025/26 are here to make that happen but instead of us telling you about them, we’ll let them speak for themselves. From personal journeys to big campaigns, here’s what they want you to know!
Muhammad Abdulmumin - GSU President
Mumin has just completed his BSc Hons Mathematics, and he’s honoured to be serving as your President this year. His role is about making sure students’ voices are not only heard but acted on at the highest levels of the university. He is determined to strengthen transparency between students and the university, improve timetabling and student spaces, and create a culture where every student feels welcomed and represented.
Campaigns this year include:
1. First Gen Ready - helping first-generation students thrive
2. Space to Believe - ensuring there are inclusive faith spaces for everyone
3. Timetabling - campaigning for better, fairer scheduling
4. International Conflict Policy - improving university-wide support and response
But beyond campaigns, Mumin wants to remind students to enjoy the full experience of university:
“However many years you spend your time here will go by in an instant. From your very first day when you get your ID card till you walk across that stage and throw your hat in the air on graduation, make the most of every moment. Join societies, be the group leader, ask the question, take the opportunity, make friends. University is your story - live it fully.”
And if you ever want to chat:
“If you’ve actually read this far - come by the office and say hi. I’d love to meet you.''
Hari Prasad Boddupally - Academic Representation Officer
Hari came to the UK in 2024 to study a Master’s in Food Innovation with Industrial Practice. From the beginning, he threw himself into student life first as a Course Rep, then as STEP IP Rep, and now as your Academic Representation Officer.
Based at the Medway campus, Hari has seen first-hand the challenges of underrepresentation and lack of connection many students face there. That’s why he stood for election:
“Medway matters. Every student deserves to be seen, heard, and supported - regardless of their campus.”
This year, Hari is leading five key campaigns:
1. Unified Voices - making student feedback consistent and effective across the university
2. Future Ready Forum - helping students connect with employers and prepare for their careers
3. Medway Matters - improving safety, engagement, and innovation at Medway
4. Affordable Student Living (Kent) - tackling financial stress and housing costs
5. Green Den - launching a sustainable startup hub for entrepreneurs
Hari says: “Student life should be amazing, not just good. From your very first day to graduation, I’ll stand by you, advocate for you, and work to ensure that every moment is filled with opportunity, support, and connection.”
Md Saif Mollah Chanchol - Inclusion and Wellbeing Officer
Saif has just finished his second year of BSc Computer Science and is proud to serve as your Inclusion and Wellbeing Officer. Coming from a humble background, he says studying in the UK was always a dream and now being able to represent students here feels like proof that dreams do come true with persistence and courage.
Saif’s focus this year is on making campus life safer, fairer, and more connected.
His priorities include:
1. Protecting & Empowering Female Students - prioritising safety, wellbeing, and equal opportunities
2. Fairer Academic Support - pushing for resit reforms and better Extenuating Circumstances policies
3. Better Study Spaces - more pods, dedicated areas, and reliable Wi-Fi
4. Rebuilding the Greenwich App - one hub for timetables, study spaces, wellbeing, events, and more
For Saif, the heart of his role is listening:
“Leadership is not about titles but about listening, understanding, and acting. Your voice matters. Every concern, every idea, and every bit of feedback has the power to spark change.”
And his advice to students is clear:
“Step out of your comfort zone, believe in your potential, and don’t be afraid to aim higher. University is the perfect place to try, to fail, to learn, and to thrive. Together, we can make our campus more inclusive, welcoming, and empowering for all.”
Chirag Ahuja - Activities and Communities Officer
Chirag, from India, completed his Bachelor’s in Business Administration before joining Greenwich to study MSc Accounting and Finance. He knows how tough it can be to transition into life in London as an international student and how important community is in making that journey easier.
His first months were all about adapting to a new culture, balancing studies, and finding his footing. Now, as your Activities and Communities Officer, he wants to make sure students have access to the support, opportunities, and experiences that helped him settle in.
His campaigns this year are focused on:
1. Digital Learning Experience - flexible and engaging online resources to help students balance life and studies
2. Affordable Living for Students - promoting housing solutions and cost-saving tips
3. Sodexo: Better Halls, Better Living - improving university halls with better infrastructure and maintenance
4. Play Together : Community Sport for Everyone - making sport inclusive, fun, and accessible for all students
For Chirag, it’s all about balance:
“University life isn’t just about lectures and deadlines. It’s about creating balance, building community, and finding opportunities to grow. Whether it’s better halls that feel like home, affordable living that eases financial worries, or sports that bring us together every campaign I run is about supporting you.”
A Final Word:
Each of your officers has a story, a campaign, and a vision for change. But none of it works without you. So, share your ideas, get involved in their campaigns, and say hi when you see them around campus. Together, you can shape this year into one that’s not just memorable, but transformational.
