Reporting an accident or incident

Accidents must be reported by completing the form on the ‘Accident Management System’ within 24 hours. More information on reporting an incident and logging into the Accident Management System can be found below

Reporting an incident - AMS

An investigation may be undertaken by a member of Union staff and/or University staff to gain further information about the incident, so please make sure the accident report form is filled in correctly and as fully as possible.

All students should download the SafeZone app.

What to do in an emergency

Off Campus

If necessary, contact the relevant emergency services on 999 (or the relevant local emergency number if abroad – often this is 112).

On Campus

If necessary, contact the relevant emergency services on 999 and gate house security and ensure that the emergency services have the correct information and that the gatehouse staff are expecting them. Gatehouse security at each site can be contacted via the SafeZone app or telephone

Greenwich Gatehouse Security | 020 8331 7616

Avery Hill Gatehouse Security | 020 8331 9101

Medway Gatehouse Security | 01634 883138

On a Trip

If your trip is taking place outside of the Union opening hours then you should arrange in advance with the Student Activities staff to brief campus security in case of emergency. All students are required to have a campus security number saved into their mobile phone and a trip list completed.

Handling Emergencies related to High-Risk Activities

High risk or outdoor pursuit activities must have an additional set of procedures to deal with the emergencies that are specific to their activity. This information should be communicated to group members via trip or event briefings and any necessary training. It is the responsibility of the activity committee, trip leader and vehicle driver to ensure that all participants are aware of the actions to take in the event of an emergency. Any additional high risk activity will require an enhanced risk assessment.
