The purpose of the Communications Assistant is to:
- Promote the events and services hosted by The Hub and The Deep End
- Work with the Marketing and Communications department to promote GSU activity at Medway to support the partnership between Greenwich, Kent and Canterbury.
- Produce engaging content for use on The Hubs social media channels and website. Including videos, photos, graphics and text copy.
- Contribute content for emails to student communities and/or all students sent by the Marketing and Communications team.
Job description
Social media, print, website and emails
- Contribute to and maintain content on The Hub’s primary social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, and begin to expand on LinkedIn and TikTok).
- Create engaging video content for social channels. This includes suggesting ideas, planning content, filming with students, and basic editing for social media.
- Write content for website, social media and emails that shows the range of student community, and GSU activities.
- Monitor and respond to enquiries on primary accounts in a timely manner, passing on any information to the enquirer, or passing on to relevant staff members in the team.
- Work with the Medway team to ensure content on The Hub website is up to date.
- Ensure that print collateral is displayed and distributed effectively.
- Use of design and editing software will be required - Canva, Capcut, and possibly Adobe.
General Responsibilities
- Attend appropriate training, events, conferences and meetings as required.
- Undertake other tasks and responsibilities compatible with the level and nature of the post, as required by the Marketing and Communications Coordinator.
- Adhere to the GSU Constitution, policies and procedures at all times, including the Equality and Diversity Statement and the Health and Safety and Sustainability Policies.
- Contribute to the positive image of GSU with students, the University, the local community and other relevant organisations.
Person specification
Experience
- Creating engaging content for social media, whether in a professional, voluntary or personal capacity.
- Writing for print or digital, e.g. blogging. (desirable)
Skills and abilities
- Basic photography and videography skills using a mobile phone.
- Clear communication skills face to face, as well as on social media, email and the phone.
- Ability to identify and communicate appropriately to a range of audiences.
- IT skills at a level that supports innovative social media and digital content management.
- Reliable time management and organisational skills.
- Self-motivated with the confidence to work alone but can also work co-operatively and flexibly as part of a team.
- Ability to stay focused and efficient in the face of changing priorities.
- Basic design capabilities, including photography and video editing skills (desirable).
Knowledge
- Awareness of the role of Students’ Unions in a good student experience.
- Awareness of Greenwich Students’ Union activities and services (desirable).
Personal attributes and requirements
- A self-starter, able to work individually and as a member of a team.
- Enthusiastic about supporting others to create change and doing so within a dynamic organisation.
