On the 18th of March we will be celebrating Holi on the field opposite the library. On the day, powder colours will be provided to play games with and some lovely Indian hot snacks will be provided. We will be playing games with the powders and it will be first come first serve with powder bags. To ensure you get powder please book your interest in coming to this event as Holi is very popular.

Holi is a two-day Hindu festival that originates in India. On the first day, people will gather around a bonfire and celebrate good triumphing over evil. But it’s the second day that most people will recognise - that’s when perfumed powder called gulal is pelted at everyone and made to stick with water pistols, water balloons and colours to play with.

There are lots of Hindu legends that are believed to contribute to the meaning of the festival, but there are two in particular that are thought to be the most popular - each one celebrated over the two day period. Now we would like to celebrate with you at Avery Hill on the field opposite the Library.

We advise everyone to wear white tops that you don't mind getting dirty in as the colours will stain clothing. If you don't have white tops, please wear clothes that you don't mind getting stains/dirty in. And bring a spare change of clothes/shoes if you commute to Avery Hill.

Due to health and safetly, you must throw colours from shoulder length down on any individual to minimise any powder going into eyes and causing irritation. Please respect this rule otherwise the games will have to stop.

We hope to see you all there!

Happy Holi!!!!
