black history month

October is Black History Month and we are proud to celebrate it at Greenwich Students' Union.

The menu above will lead you to some profiles and portraits of Greenwich staff and students; resources for reading and learning; and seeing what events we're running across each campus throughout October.

The exhibition link above takes you to our online exhibit, their story, our history.

You can also join the African and Caribbean (ACS) Society at Greenwich or the Afro-Caribbean Society at Medway and take part in their activites throughout the year.

We will be adding to our events, information and exhibits throughout October. Please keep an eye on this website for more details throughout Black History Month!

Competition

Greenwich Students' Union invites all students to submit their artwork celebrating Black History Month 2025.

This year's theme is "Standing Firm in Power and Pride", highlighting the strength, resilience, and unwavering confidence of Black communities in the face of adversity.

We’re calling all student artists, creatives, and visionaries to express what power, pride, and Black identity mean to you. Whether it’s through painting, digital design, photography, mixed media, or illustration — let your voice be seen.

What to submit:
- Original artwork inspired by this year’s theme
- A short description (max 150 words) explaining your piece
- Your full name and student ID

Winning pieces will be displayed digitally across campus and physically in the Greenwich Liberation Lounge. The top three submissions will receive prizes.
