Short story... because I hate feeling powerless.

I am a really talkative person, but I am also a great listener (Be what you want others to be) And a great deal of being a student is to find the flaws in the system that charges us so much. And I listen, and I see, and I want to make a change; I want these problems to stop being problems. I always say, once you acknowledge there is a problem, you can find a solution. And this is mine. I have been elected as your Global Ambassador for the this academic year, and I have made it my mission to make motions to change everything that needs changing. Now vote for me to become your NUS delegate to take all your problems to the national level and bring a change.

1.For me Equality means:

  • Closing the BME attainment gap by anonymising marking across the board to tackle racial bias
  • Increasing academic support to ensure students who come in with lower tariffs are given necessary resources
  • Removing barriers in accessing mental health support for BME students
  • Democratically debate motions and pass policy from students’ unions across the UK
  • International students’ rights/PGWV
  • A strong , campaigning union

2- Your academics in Practice

With the reality of living in London and rising living costs worldwide, Universities should also serve as a space for individual skill and practice development, as well as academic. I propose three ways to do this:

  • Cross Departmental Collaboration for expanded module options
  • Establish connections with Further Education (FE) Institutions, public and private sector organisations, and local entities for work placements and experience
  • Creating spaces on campus that students can position their degree in the real world, and simultaneously benefit the local community.

3- Social solidarity

  • Support for Care Leavers: Only 4% of care experienced young people access further or higher education. I want NUS to support the development of support services for care leavers in every University and the development of student groups for care leavers.
  • A Fair Wage for Placement Students: I want to see an NUS that lobbies for a fair wage for students on placement. When students are working full-time jobs as part of their course, they deserve a wage that is fair and equitable.

4- A Democratic Education

I will continue the fight for a student centred education that engages, reaches, and supports all our student body.

  • Continuing to Liberate the Curriculum through reading lists, assessment and feedback methods, and pedagogical approaches
  • Tackling the Black student attainment gap, which currently sits nationwide at 20%
  • Integration of Mature, Part Time, Student Parents, International, and Postgrad students into the Students’ Union, through developing services and spaces that meet their unique needs.

VOTE FOR GAVIN, VOTE TO REPRESENT EVERYONE.
