BAME Attainment Gap

  • 77.1% of white students received a first or 2:1 compared with 61.7% of BME students

This very much links to what our university is doing in attempting to close this gap. Holding consultation groups, appointing curriculum consultants, holding a “Black History Month Expedition” and attending national conferences.

Nationalisation of Education

The NUS support the complete nationalisation of education, with increased public funding. This relates to our university in the sense that most of our students come from non-selective schools. As well as, many coming from deprived areas or disadvantaged homes. Nationalising education will take out the elitism that currently exists in secondary education.

No to No Deal Brexit

NUS stated if there was to a second referendum, they would support remain given that roughly 75% of the student body voted that way.

In order to support this push, I would build networks with the Politics and Model UN society. In addition, giving updates via email and the university website if there is any sort of political activity. As well as, updates via the weekly newsletter.

Voting age reduced 16

Having already been introduced and proven successful in other places such as Scotland. I feel that is long overdue, given that at age 16 we are making critical decisions that will affect our future. At 18 I feel that it is too late.
