Let the change begin: By you, From you, and For You

‘Hello, I am Krishmi Karki, and I would like to be your student officer. I am an international student currently in the final year of BA Hons International Business. After almost experiencing three years of the university environment, a sense of hustle for a deadline, a sense of confusion on career, and a sense of isolation has always been there. Especially with the covid pandemic, our lives, thinking and mental health have faced an abrupt change. Hence, we need a change in the university support system for students and I will bring that to you.’

I Stand for:

Accountability, Transparency, Visibility & Inclusivity

#1. A PROBLEM-SOLVING VIRTUAL ROOM

Many issues are left unheard, unreported, and unsolved. I will introduce a help-point chat tab in university Moodle where students can privately discuss their issues. Whether it is academic, social, or mental support they need, it will be addressed immediately. This will also allow the university board to identify the weakness within our support system and advocate for the required change. ‘Every problem will be identified, heard, and solved!’

#2. ENCHANCHED CARRER SUPPORT

A sense of confusion on the career path is the most driving conversation among us. A vocational support system will be established to encourage more students to take part in career discussions and explorations. This includes university pre-establishing links and networks with experienced professionals to connect with students and also, Job fairs, webinars, and placements. This will enhance professional awareness within students allowing them to experience their degree in practical life. ‘Every student will be a professional’

#3. TRANSPARENCY FOR DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

I will increase the transparency of our university social and academic event to increase inclusiveness of our diverse society. This will encourage widening participation and create strong collaboration within our cultural diversity. ‘Everyone will be included! Everyone will be heard!’

#4. DIVERSIFY THE FOOD CULTURE

I will raise awareness among the university board that the environment and especially food around us affect mental health, activeness. So, I will work to promote more diversified food alternatives that are accessible to students from various ethnic and health backgrounds.

#5. SUPPORT FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

I will provide proper guidelines and support for registration, employability, academic support, mental health for all international students. Also, I will conduct pre and post-events to provide insight into university and student life for those students transitioning to the UK for higher education.
