Plain Text:

My name is Sharon Chawda. I am a first year student, studying Politics and International Relations at Greenwich Maritime campus. I would love to be a part of a Union that works for the benefit of all students and encourages improvements in every aspect of our university life. I am running for NUS delegate for the year 2021-2022. I am a member of the politics society at University of Greenwich. I am also a member of the East Ham constituency Labour Party. One day I hope to pursue a career in politics but one has to start somewhere- hopefully by being elected as an NUS Delegate soon!

We all have an urge to change things for the betterment of our future but most of us don’t know which way to head. I want to be the voice for all first year students and to improve the quality of our lives during our years at university. I would achieve this by being available virtually and on campus to listen and tackle issues, along with hosting regular campaigns that address important student issues which I will then raise with the appropriate departments.

I come from a multicultural background. Born in India, educated in East London and I understand and respect the importance of various cultures. I will take every possible step to make life easier for international students and all those coming from different backgrounds and communities.

I would also like to represent all women including those that come from ethnic minority backgrounds. I understand how difficult it is to live with parents or relatives who are too conservative and I would tackle this issue by setting up an online and offline system to discuss what students really want. Even parents and relatives can join this campaign on a monthly basis. It will be about raising awareness about equality between all, respecting and trusting children. Same goes for the students, to respect their families but also to look after themselves and not to sacrifice their dreams or ambitions for any unrealistic reasons.

I respectfully ask you to give me your votes so that I can represent us all at the NUS delegate events so that we can build better lives for ourselves and others around us.

My priorities:

  • Availability
  • Trust
  • Racism Awareness
  • Women Empowerment
