"Building a community which is home to all"

About Me:

Hello Guys, my names Darnell White-Russell (or more commonly referred to as Nells). I am a 2nd Year student for Politics and International Relations. I have been a Programme Representative since my 1st Year and I am still pushing forward within this role. To make life just that little bit easier for students within my faculty.

Areas of Focus:

·       BAME (Black, Asian & Other Ethnic Minorities) Attainment Gap

Our university sits within one of the most the cosmopolitan cities in the world and embraces diversity. If we are really committed to narrowing this gap, we need to do more to establish the root causes, research possible solutions and create a strategic plan that addresses these,

·       Collective Policing (Library, Dreadnaught etc.)

This academic year there have been a significant number of avoidable situations of anti-sociable behaviour which have resulted in serious consequences. We are all responsible for our own actions. If we promoted this across the university, I believe that many of these occurrences could be avoided and lead to a better overall student experience.

·       Working together - students and lecturers

We need clear expectations of their roles and responsibilities. With the introduction of a mentoring scheme, students could answer other student’s questions which they may feel uncomfortable about asking their lecturer.

·       Promoting Careers - Greater push for placements

Frequent careers fairs and various other events have significantly improved this year which is promoting the opportunities for students in the next stage of their life – securing a job. I feel this event should run throughout the week or simply on other days to allow students to have a better opportunity to attend.
