Opportunities come and go, but no two opportunities are equal. This is an opportunity to elect me as your faculty officer for engineering and science.
As programme rep, I regularly attend meetings with university staff to voice opinions on issues that concern students. Observing direct results such as later access to laboratory facilities.
I also work part-time as a Trainee ConstructionQuality Control Managerin a large construction firm. I’m gaining management experience and an understanding of industry practice. This, in turn, would enable me to entrench the value of extracurricular activities relating to engineering/science.
I personally attend events held by “The Institute Of Civil Engineers (I.C.E.)”, taking along interested people. In fact, as you read this, I’m in the final steps of organising a university trip to “Future Build 2019”one of the biggest events for the build environment.
A major focus for me as faculty officer is more events!
- I believe an active engagement in these events allows students to see the implementation of what they study manifest itself in the real world.
- Participators observe creative solutions to engineering/science problems. With the hope to inspire and motivate the thinkers of tomorrow.
Another key objective is to provide greater access to resourcesfor engineering/science students.
- As programme rep, I’m currently negotiating a way for civil engineering students to gain access to total station systems, to attain practical experience before professionally qualifying for the industry.
- Greater access to resources means we can be better prepared to compete in this increasingly competitive world.
Core mission: For students to build connections with one another, whilst developing networks with professionals across the industry.
Opportunities come and go, but no two opportunities are equal. With me as a faculty officer, I aim to mould the opportunities presented into tools that turn visions into reality.
