Greenwich helped me, I want to help you!
Hi, my name is Tommy Monkhouse and I am running for the position of Full Time Officer. I have been with the Student Union for five years so far, whether as a Student, a Barman, a GSU representative or a committee member for A&G. I feel that I have some major ideas, which could improve the Student Union, but also keep it on track.
Firstly, I want to get improvement for Mental and Physical health support at the Student Union and the University. With our all-inclusive view at the SU, I feel the University needs to have more understanding for those mentally and physically disabled. While there are support systems in place, which I have personally used. There is room for improvement when needing to miss class and have in class support, which I aim to fight for.
Secondly, I wish to bring in more university on university interaction. With Varsity being one of our most successful events each year, I want more interaction between Avery Hill, Greenwich, Woolwich and Medway’s campuses to allow more students to come together and create a larger community.
Thirdly, I’d like to fight for more financial support for students, whether for Degree, Masters or PHD students, money can be tough! So I feel that there is a place for improvement on financial support, whether it be for paying rent to accommodation, societies and living expenses or delays in course payments, I want to dig into getting that help.
Finally, I want to develop societies, not only allowing them to expand, but to also find a way to bring more people into all societies. Creating relationships at University is one of the most important times in life and I want more chances for that to happen, not only to have a support system but to change lives the way the SU has for many.
