I’m applying for Student Council Chair position, as some my strengths include communicating with a caring and passionate disposition. currently work as Course rep, where I listen, debate and challenge to effect change through liaisons with Tutors when students aren’t happy with issues on the programme.
As an Accessibility Ambassador with the STAART programme, I help assist with the wellbeing of students with a range of disabilities and manage social media pages as well as organising events and get togethers.
I was also a Student Ambassador at College and a lead in the Student Union. I set up a STOP self-harm support group and ran Thinking of You campaign helping those living on the streets of London at Christmas by delivering shoeboxes to the homeless around the Christmas period.
People’s wellbeing is genuinely important to me and living in a democratic community should be everyone’s right. I am an avid believer in inclusivity and change for good.
If elected I pledge to;
- ensure all students get necessary Software/IT training enabling them to excel in their work. There is an invisible expectation amongst tutors that everyone possesses great software/IT knowledge and assignments get set without teaching the how to skills. This has to change.
- Secondly, we need more personal direct engagement between students and lecturers who instruct rather than interact. It’s essential to fully UNDERSTAND all assignments as early in the process as possible, to establish fully clarity and what is being asked of them.
- Students are waiting too long before they are getting to grips with what they need to do. This causes negativity and stress and I want to ensure there are assistance programs eliminating confusion and anxiety.
Everyone’s Experience should be a positive one.
