Hello,
I’m Wajiha, currently a Law student at Greenwich and running for the position of the BAME Students Officer. Unlike many other candidates, I can’t tell you about all the societies I’ve joined simply because I haven’t joined many. The main reason for this is I don’t feel there are currently any societies that cater to people like me specifically or are involved in matters I care about.
This is what I want to change.
My main aims include:
- Putting US first – It is a matter of great importance to me that people feel as if they’re accepted and respected in their place of study or work. This is why I will work hard to understand any concerns you may have regarding possible discrimination or racism, and ensure these are resolved.
- Promoting inclusivity – I want more BAME students to be involved throughout the university, in different societies and events. It is time for the range of diverse cultures present at the University of Greenwich to be exhibited. As your BAME Students Officer I will take on board any suggestions you have for culture specific societies or events where you can truly celebrate who you are. I aim to make these an opportunity to celebrate our heritage and educate others about it too.
- Promote equal opportunity- The university of Greenwich provides many opportunities to enhance one’s skill set and allow you to make a difference in our community. Therefore, I want to ensure that everyone gets the same opportunity and chance to excel, regardless of their background. I hope for this to be accomplished by promoting more opportunities directly targeting increased diversity in the workplace.
Remember, I can only do this is you vote for me between the 6th and 8th of March!
