When thinking of womens’ issues in today’s society it is easy to generalise and speak for all women. This is something that completely ignores one of the most amazing sides of women - our diversity. Not only are we women, but we are women of different cultures, sexualities, sizes, opinions and much more. This diversity should be celebrated and taken into account when making political decisions in the Students’ Union that affect womens’ everyday lives as students. This diversity is what I, Nathalie Grigorenko, if elected as Women Students’ Officer, would like to focus on.
As the Women Students’ part-time officer I would:
-
Set up regular meetings with focus groups with women from different liberation groups
-
Work closely with the other part-time liberation officers
-
Have at least one joint event or campaign with every single elected liberation officer
-
Work with liberation societies and work on joint events and campaigns
Sexism and misogyny at university, as in the rest of society, is often not taken as a serious issue, but rather as a series of bad opinions. This is non-acceptable. Therefore I would, if elected, also dedicate my time to:
-
Work with the University to tackle sexism at the university
-
Advocate for a zero-tolerance policy towards sexism
-
Make all three campuses more secure for women
With experience as a previous SU president and Head of Student Democracy, LGBTQ+-Society President, and SU delegate to national conferences, I promise that I will do everything I can to tackle women’s issues at Greenwich.
Therefore, if you believe in equality, diversity, inclusivity, and honesty a vote for me will put you first.
