Introduction
Hello, peer students! My name is Islam Rafiqul. You can call me Rafik. I am a second-year student in business management and an aged or you can say an uncle student. I am excited and delighted to run for the position of student officer at Greenwich Student Union. I am passionate about involving our university experience in cohesive, more inclusive, affordable, adaptive, and above all enjoyable to everyone.
Who am I?
I am a citizen of the European Union (Italy). I was born and grew up in Bangladesh until 20 years. My two sons completed their graduation, the elder one from SOAS University in business management and the younger one from Queen Mary University in mechanical engineering. My daughter is an A-level 1styear student at Brampton Manor Academy. 40 years ago, I had a dream to study at one of the UK’s universities. I have touched that dream by enrolling at Greenwich University in 2023. That means, “You could never give up your hope and dream”. As a student at this university, for the last 18 months, I realised that some existing issues of this university might be shorted out in different ways-which provoked or led me to be a candidate for student officer.
What have I more than others?
I have a lifetime of experience in solving the micro/macro issues. I have immense patience to stay behind in any unexpected situation and realistic acquaintance to overcome those.
My Visions and Priorities
1st of all, it will be more practical or achievable. If I am elected by your proper choice, then there will be no revolution in the current procedures. However, the following agendas will have the priority of connecting students to the university’s facilities.
Academic Support
- Working for more study spaces, especially in course assessment submission deadline times.
- Working to minimise the hours between two lecture periods.
- Working to minimise the distance between two lecture premises.
- Working to have more flexible opportunities to access the QR codes for attendance (minimum 10 to 15 minutes from the beginning of the lesson, cause of transport or other reasons).
Student Success
- Push for better academic achievement, including mentorship programs and accessible learning opportunities.
- Encourage equity in the evaluation and feedback procedures.
