"Your Voice, Our Mission, One Greenwich."
Who Am I?
Hi, I’m Selvakrishna, an MSc Child and Adolescent Psychology student and your current Student Commuter Chair at Greenwich. My experience in student advocacy, leadership, and community building has equipped me with the skills to tackle key student concerns and implement real change.
Key Issues & My Plans
1. Improved Support for International Students
- Advocate for virtual university tours before admission, in addition to accommodation tours, to help international students make informed decisions.
- Establish better guidance and dedicated support for international students to address their concerns directly through one-on-one calls.
- Push for more insights into course outcomes to ensure international students understand their career prospects before enrolling.
- Work towards ensuring fair and accessible scholarships for international students who qualify but currently face difficulties securing them.
I promise that 2025 will be a smoother experience for international students, and I will ensure that future intakes have a seamless transition into university life.
2. Stronger Support for Home Students
- Advocate for more career fairs and networking events to help home students build industry connections.
- Push for better mental health and wellbeing services to support students facing academic and personal challenges.
- Ensure that part-time job fairs include flexible job opportunities that accommodate student schedules.
- Improve study spaces and facilities to provide a more comfortable and productive learning environment.
3. Efficient Fund Access for Societies
- Ensure societies receive their allocated funds on time without bureaucratic delays.
- Streamline the reimbursement process for student-led events and initiatives to make it faster and hassle-free.
- Advocate for additional funding to support diverse student activities.
- Ensure all societies remain active by providing proper support and resources.
4. Better Facilities for Sports & Indoor Games
- Guarantee proper training grounds and time slots for all sports societies.
- Improve access to indoor sports facilities, ensuring fair scheduling and priority for student athletes.
5. Stronger Community for January Intake Students
- Organize large-scale social gatherings to help January intake students integrate and network.
- Plan orientation programs and mentorship opportunities to make their transition smoother.
6. Better Transport Support for Medway Students
- Advocate for additional buses for Medway students traveling to Greenwich.
- Push for a discount on travel expenses to ease financial strain.
- Work towards introducing at least one bus service on Saturdays between Medway and Greenwich.
7. Fair Opportunities for Student Ambassadors
- Ensure equal shift allocation so that all selected ambassadors get fair work opportunities.
- Improve transparency in the shift distribution process.
8. Financial Support & Affordability
- Advocate for more bursaries and emergency financial aid for students in need.
- Push for reducing the cost of snack items in the university café, as more affordable options exist outside campus.
9. Career & Employability Support
- Increase part-time job fairs that cater to students with zero prior experience, ensuring more accessible job opportunities.
- Collaborate with businesses to secure exclusive job opportunities for Greenwich students.
10. Housing & Accommodation Assistance
- Campaign for better housing conditions and lower rent for on-campus accommodation.
- Prevent housing exploitation through better university support.
- Push for student-friendly accommodation options near campus.
I will work towards reducing on-campus accommodation costs, as this is a major concern for students. Even a small reduction can make a big difference in affordability.
11. Sustainability & Green Initiatives
- Promote better recycling facilities and sustainable food options.
- Support student-led environmental projects.
