"Your Future, Our Efforts – Empowering Opportunities, Embracing Diversity"
Who Am I?
I am Salina Khan, a passionate screenwriter, filmmaker and gold medalist from Pakistan with four years of industry experience. Currently I'm pursuing an MA in Film Production here, while also serving as the President of the Cinematic Arts Society and a Student Representative. As a self-financed student from a lower-middle-class family, I deeply understand the challenges of balancing dreams and financial struggles. My journey has been one of relentless hard work, and I am driven to inspire and empower every student to believe that nothing is impossible with determination and perseverance.
My Vision:
As your GSU Officer, I aim to address the real challenges students face. I will focus on improving employability for fresh and international graduates, providing better support for securing jobs and resolving visa issues. Additionally, I will advocate for increased scholarships, flexible payment plans, and affordable campus life to reduce financial stress, particularly for self-financed students and those from lower-income backgrounds.
I’m also dedicated to fostering true inclusion across all communities, ensuring that every student, regardless of religion, sexuality, gender, or ethnicity, feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed academically and professionally.
My Goals
- I will enhance employability for fresh graduates, including international students, by establishing a task force to identify gaps in career services and collaborating with employers to create tailored job opportunities. By building strong partnerships with industry leaders, I’ll ensure graduate skills align with job market needs. Focused support will be provided to international students, helping them navigate visa challenges and secure roles in their desired fields. Additionally, I will personalize and streamline career initiatives to reduce stress, ensuring that every student has a clear, accessible path to employment.
- I will promote true inclusion and diversity by fostering an inclusive campus culture where students of all religions, genders, sexualities, and ethnicities come together to celebrate each other’s identities. I will organize cross-community events to encourage collaboration and understanding, bridging gaps between different groups. Additionally, I will ensure that every student feels safe, valued, and heard, creating an environment where all students can thrive both within their own communities and across the broader campus.
- I will advocate for lowering accommodation and food costs on campus to ease the financial burden on students, especially international and self-financed students. I will collaborate with the University to introduce flexible installment plans for tuition and accommodation fees, making education more accessible. Additionally, I will push for expanded scholarship opportunities for students from lower-income backgrounds and international students to help them thrive without financial stress.
A Promise of Action & Progress
I believe in demonstrating change through meaningful actions, not just words. I will remain fully engaged with each of you, ensuring I understand your challenges and work tirelessly to provide effective solutions. By choosing me as your leader, we will create a future where success is not just a possibility, but a reality for all of us. Together, we will prove that no dream is too big as long as we’re determined to make it happen.
