My Manifesto for Student Union Officer: Promoting Diversity, Accessibility, and Support

Greetings fellow students of the prestigious University of Greenwich,

My name is Ewaen Arnold Ero. I am a 2nd Year Public Health Student with a passion for community engagement and Public Health advocacy.

As a candidate for Student Union Officer, I am deeply committed to representing and advocating for the diverse needs and concerns of our vibrant student community here at the University of Greenwich. Our university embodies a rich tapestry of cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives, but we face significant challenges, including cost of living crises, academic pressures, tuition fee challenges by international students, Inequality, and safety concerns. It is only when we work together that I strongly believe we can address these challenges and create an inclusive and supportive environment for everyone.

Here are the key pillars of my manifesto:

  1. Diversity and Inclusion:
    • Actively champion cultural exchange programmes and events to celebrate and promote diversity on campus.
    • Work with the university to provide adequate assistance to non-native English speakers, and facilitate their integration and active engagement within academic and social spheres.
    • Promote safe spaces for BAME communities and differently-abled students to voice their concerns and seek support.
  2. Accessibility and Affordability:
    • Engineer Peer-to-peer Support Networks: Create a platform or group where University of Greenwich students can share tips and resources for finding affordable housing, groceries, and other necessities.
    • Lobby for fairer tuition fees for international students, advocating for transparent accommodating payment structures and financial aid options.
    • Work with local authorities and businesses to negotiate discounts and subsidies for essential goods and services, easing the cost of living burden on students.
    • Advocate for increased funding and resources for the well-being department, academic support programmes, and student welfare initiatives.
  3. Academic Support and Well-being:
    • Expand peer mentoring and tutoring to provide additional academic support for students facing pressure.
    • Campaign for flexible assessment deadlines and exam timetables to alleviate stress and promote better mental health.
    • Collaborate with academic departments to enhance accessibility to resources and facilities, ensuring equitable opportunities for all students.
  4. Safety and Security:
    • Work with the university to enhance campus security measures through increased lighting and emergency response systems.
    • Foster a culture of mutual respect and zero tolerance for discrimination or harassment through awareness campaigns and disciplinary action against offenders.
  5. Student Engagement and Representation:
    • Strengthen ties with student organisations and societies to facilitate collaboration and community-building initiatives.

My fellow University of Greenwich students, together, we have the power to shape the future of our university and create a campus that is inclusive, accessible, and supportive of everyone. With your support, I am committed to turning this manifesto into action and making meaningful changes for the betterment of our student community.

Thank you for your trust and consideration.
