Innovate, Advocate, Elevate: Let's Lead the Change!

Hi everyone, I'm Mishal Asif, a final year Accounting and Finance student at Greenwich. Serving as Finance Officer at Greenwich Student's Union and as a Student Ambassador, I'm dedicated to enhancing our student experience. With three enriching years at Greenwich, I'm passionate about improving our collective journey. Through diverse team collaborations, I've assisted many students and prospects, contributing to various missions. Presently, I'm focused on the BAME project, aiming to enhance the experiences of Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnicity students. Through awareness events and focus group sessions, we're making impactful changes to student life. I'm committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all.

As a candidate for the Student Union Officer job at the University of Greenwich, I come to you with a vision: to create a campus atmosphere in which every student feels heard, supported, and encouraged to thrive. Throughout my term, I am committed to tackling the critical issues confronting our diverse student body and implementing concrete reforms that will improve the overall student experience.

Here's what I want to achieve:

Diverse Representation: Our student body is extremely varied, and it is critical that all voices be heard and represented. I will campaign for more representation of marginalised groups in the Student Union and try to build inclusive environments in which all students feel valued and appreciated.

Affordable Education: The cost of education should not be a barrier to achieving academic success. I will work for price structure clarity, look into ways to reduce international fee, and advocate for increased financial support programmes to help students.

Professional Development: I believe in providing students with the tools and resources they need to succeed outside of the classroom. I will organise workshops, seminars, and networking events to help students gain significant professional development experience and prepare them for future career success.

Accessible Support Services: I will endeavour to improve the accessibility and availability of mental health resources, academic advising, and career guidance to ensure that every student has the support they require to succeed.

Enhanced Campus Facilities: I recognise the necessity of having modern and effective facilities that meet the different demands of our student body. I will work with university administration to prioritise renovations and upgrades to campus amenities such as study rooms, entertainment areas, and food facilities.

Sustainability Initiatives: As environmental stewards, it is our job to implement sustainable practices and lessen our ecological imprint. I plan to create recycling programmes, encourage environmentally friendly transportation options, and lobby for the inclusion of sustainability education in the curriculum.

Community Engagement: Stronger relationships within our campus community result in a more enriching university experience. I plan to have frequent town hall meetings, cultural events, and networking opportunities to develop connections among students, faculty, and staff.

Student Welfare: Your well-being is my first concern. I will set up a confidential feedback system to gather information about student problems and experiences, and I will work closely with university management to address housing, safety, and campus security issues.

By working together, we can influence the future of our university and bring about constructive change. We can create a more robust, welcoming, and active campus community with your help, I'm sure of it. Together, let's make sure that everyone at the University of Greenwich has a better tomorrow by raising our voices.
