Who are we?

University of Greenwich Run Club – Run Through History, Run Together

The University of Greenwich Run Club is more than just a running group – it’s a community built on friendship, fitness, and the shared joy of movement. Based in the heart of historic Greenwich, our club brings together students and staff who want to stay active, explore the local area, and connect with like-minded people.

Whether you’re a complete beginner looking for motivation, or an experienced runner training for your next race, our sessions are designed to be inclusive and welcoming to all abilities. We meet every week outside the Dreadnought Building and set off on scenic routes that showcase the beauty of Greenwich – from the iconic Old Royal Naval College and the riverside Thames Path, to the rolling hills and stunning views of Greenwich Park. Running here means running through centuries of history while building new memories together.

But our club is about more than fitness. We believe running is a powerful way to build friendships and relieve stress. After our runs, we often gather for a social – whether that’s a coffee, a pub night, or just catching up after training. Our ambition is to create a balance between physical wellbeing and social connection, making the Run Club a hub where people feel supported, encouraged, and part of something bigger.

Our goals are simple:

  • To provide a space where everyone feels welcome, no matter their pace or experience.

  • To inspire our members to improve their fitness and wellbeing in a fun, accessible way.

  • To celebrate the unique heritage of Greenwich while building a modern, energetic community.

  • To foster lasting friendships that extend far beyond running.

At the University of Greenwich Run Club, we don’t just run for speed or distance – we run for health, for happiness, and for each other.

When do we usually train/meet?

Weekly times are TBD. We will have routes that will include areas around Greenwich Park, Cutty Sark, Blackheath, and more. Our runs will usually end in local cafes and pubs where we can socialize amongst each other post run.
