The Greenwich Students’ Union (GSU) Board of Trustees are pleased to announce that Kate Dawson will be joining Greenwich Students’ Union (GSU) as our new Chief Executive. Kate will officially join GSU on Monday 5th September.

The Chief Executive is responsible for leading GSU, ensuring that the Union operates successfully and within our governance structures, and we are able to evolve our offer for current and future members. They will continue to build on our strong working relationship with the University of Greenwich, and work with partners at the Medway campus to ensure we deliver on the five outcomes of our GSU Plan 2026.

John Schless, GSU Chief Executive for six years, has now joined the leadership team of the Royal College of Art.

Aatika Ayoub, GSU President, says: “We are thrilled to welcome Kate Dawson, our new CEO, to Greenwich Students’ Union. Kate’s embodiment of GSU values and her placement of students at the heart of
what she does makes her a fitting addition to the organisation. She recognises and believes in the Union’s core mission and I truly believe this will motivate and propel the force behind GSU as well as the membership to execute its Plan 2026. I am one among many excited to see what she brings to GSU.”

Kate will be joining GSU from Oxford Students' Union, where she is currently Chief Executive. She had previously worked at GSU as our Head of Membership (Deputy CEO) and was instrumental in establishing our services in Dreadnought when we moved to our new home in September 2018.

About starting at GSU, Kate says: "I am absolutely thrilled to be returning back to Greenwich Students’ Union after four years to take up the position of CEO. I have proudly built my career in Students’ Unions, working in senior management and CEO positions across London and the South-West, with my most recent role as Oxford SU CEO. I firmly believe that Students’ Unions are transformational places for students, creating incredible opportunities for development at such an important and formative time. I am excited to get started and work with the incredible Greenwich community and Greenwich Students’ Union team to deliver the strategy to help Greenwich students become their best."

We look forward to GSU's new chapter of development, starting with the first full year of our GSU Plan in 2022/23.
