Change your lens, change your story...

Hello, my name is Sharifa Yakubu, and I am running for faculty officer for the faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences (FLAS). I am a second-year BA Sociology student. I am running because I have realised that there are numerous issues around the university that affects us, students, daily, but there is nothing done about it, and even if there are services available to help, they are not advertised enough to.

If elected I will campaign on the Following things:

  1. Mental Health

This issue is important because numerous statistics (e.g from MIND) have shown that there has been a rise in mental health among students. I plan on tackling this issue by working with the Student Wellbeing Service team to provide more services for students.

  1. Assignment and Academic Skills

A considerable number of students, especially in the first year, require extra academic guidance to help them with their essays and assignments, as they are transitioning either from their A’levels or from studies in a different cultural context. I will achieve the aim of this through working more closely with the University academic support networks in order to introduce more academic skills workshops as part of their modules.

  1. Financial Support

Many students that struggle financially, yet, when they apply for extra help, it is denied to them, due to factors such as their guardian’s income. I will achieve the aim by working on a plan that is less rigid and more holistic when it comes to applying and qualifying for financial help.

Please make sure you remember to go out and vote for me.
